On 8th May, we joined in with the national celebrations to mark the 80th anniversary of VE day.
We began our day with a whole school collective worship, discussing what VE means and why it is so significant. At the end of collective worship, we took some time to reflect on the words of Winston Churchill and how we can relate this to our own lives and having to persevere during hard times.
During the course of the day, each class designed medals or coins to commemorate the 80th anniversary. Reception were lucky enough to see some real war medals that belong to Mrs Herbert's husband. The children produced some fantastic designs, which really showcased the celebration of VE day.
We also celebrated by decorating the hall with bunting and flags and the children enjoyed a traditional British lunch of fish and chips, complete with mushy peas.
Finally, we took a whole school aerial photo, with children and staff making the shape of VE 80 on the playground. Special thanks to Mr Hart for his drone skills. Our photo was featured in the Halesowen News and on Midlands Today!
