The Nativity Story
Week beginning 28th November
This week in Reception the children have been learning about The Nativity. We have all loved learning about the characters in the nativity, and have been dressing up as some of them in our role play area! We have really enjoyed looking after baby Jesus and acting out the trip to Bethlehem. To help us learn about this, we have used a story called The Birth of Jesus written by Katherine Sully, and Puddles and the Christmas Play by Gill Vaisey.
The children have been loving using our Nativity small world tuff tray and have been using the small figures to act out the stories we have read this week. It has been lovely to see the children recall this story and use their imagination to recreate the book.
To practice our phonics this week, the children have been matching intial sounds to objects around the classroom. To try and extend their learning they have been using their sounds to read the words and match it to the correct picture.
We have been practising our fine motor skills this week by creating candy canes. We have used beads and pipe cleaners to make our beautiful candy canes - we were tricking Miss Davies by pretending to eat them! The children have become very good at using their fine motor skills to complete activities which can be a little bit tricky and fiddly.
On Wednesday night we decorated our classroom ready for the 1st of December, it looked incredibly magical. The children loved coming into the classroom to see the class christmas tree, icicles hanging from the ceiling, a christmas post office for them to write and send their own letters, an elves workshop for them to design, make and wrap toys and a home roleplay area with a tree for them to decorate.
Next week:
Next week we are beginning our Christmas Story. Our story is called The Jolly Christmas Postman by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. We can’t wait to begin learning all about Christmas. Here is a link to a read aloud version of our story: https://youtu.be/p2ZHDwlkLkM
We can’t wait to see you all next week - have a lovely weekend.
