The Nativity Story

Weerk beginning 28th November

Nursery have had such a busy week full of learning and fun! We have been reading The Christmas Story and have tried really hard to remember the new, important characters of the story , our adults have worked hard with us to recall key events from the story and sequence them in order. Some of us have enjoyed playing in the Home role play area looking after the baby , we have fed him and wrapped him in blankets to keep him warm - just like Mary and Joseph would have done to keep baby Jesus safe and warm when he was born.

We have used our Literacy area to explore the story further and we have enjoyed using the small world toys to retell the Christmas story, our adults were really impressed with how well we used these resources and how much information we could recall - we are getting much better at this skill!

We have had lots of sensory fun in Nursery this week, we have used flour and brushes to draw icicles, we have used our skills from our Squiggle whilst you Wiggle sessions to help us and we have created some beautiful icicles! We also used tweezers to find the Christmas pom poms hidden beneath all of the 'snow' shaving foam! This was lots of fun and very messy but it helped us to build the muscles in our hands and some of us were able to sort the pom poms we found into colour piles too!

In our malleable area, we made playdough and used it to make birthday cakes for baby Jesus - we thought about what flavour our cake might be and which decorations we would like to put on them too!

On Thursday, when we walked into our classroom, our teachers had turned into a festive Christmas elf workshop - we had a beautiful twinkling christmas tree and even had a second Christmas tree that we could decorate ourselves - we have put the baubles on and taken them off again so many times because we just love decorating the tree so much! We also have our very own Elf Workshop - we have dress up toys so that we can transform into busy little elves to help Santa get ready for Christmas. We have designed some toys that we think Santa might like to take to the boys and girls across the world , next week we will be helping Santa to wrap presents which we are really looking forward to!

Next week:

We have a very busy week coming up in Nursery next week - we are going to be focusing on some of our Maths skills whilst continuing to explore the Christmas story and getting ready for our Christmas party by making hats and Christmas cards for our families. We are also going to watch the children in KS1 perform their Christmas play before they perform to their families, we are very excited for this!

We are looking forward to seeing you all next week!
