Rosie's Walk

Week beginning 13th March 2023

Last week:

What a strange week we have had in Nursery this week – the snow changed all of our plans and we saw some of our children for only a few days!

I hope the children had a wonderful time in the snow when school was closed, remember even when the children are playing, they are building up gross and fine motor skills and using their imagination … though we hope there is no more snow and the weather soon becomes much brighter!

The children continued to enjoy our focus story, Rosie’s walk. They developed their fine motor skills by threading small beads on to the pigs’ pipe cleaner tail, some found this trickier than others but most persevered, we loved to see this!

The children also enjoyed observing our beans growing, some have grown so much already though some are only just starting to shoot, it has been interesting to hear the children’s thoughts on why but we all have our fingers crossed that ALL the bean plants eventually grow very tall.

The children had so much fun making honeycomb from the bees in our story, using play dough and different resources to create a honeycomb effect. Our children are really enjoying the play dough area again at the moment and we can see how their developing fine motor skills are making it easier to manipulate the dough – all this is very important for future writing.

We would like to share some photographs of our few days together below

This week:

This week is our long-awaited farm trip! The children have been so excited for the trip and we have been using our daily calendar to do a countdown to the trip, we are always trying to use maths in our everyday lives and this is a wonderful example.

This week before the trip we will be focusing on preparing the children for the trip , we will talk about staying safe and behaviour but also about how we will get to the farm, what we might see at the farm and look at the layout of the farm in anticipation of us writing our own version of Rosie’s walk using the farm we are visiting as our inspiration!

If you would like to talk to your children about the farm trip , you can head to the website and show them where they will be visiting , the website is: Childrens Petting Farm with Indoor & Outdoor Play Areas - Attwell Farm Park – encourage them to use full sentences to talk about what they would like to see whilst we visit on our trip.

We are so looking forward to our trip and hope we have a wonderful week!
