Roman Visitor to Year 3

To launch our history focus this half term, Year 3 were visited by Tacitus a Roman legionnaire, to tell us about his life in the Roman army.

The children learnt all about the rotten romans including life as a soldier, how they came to invade Britain, their armour and weapons, and military tactics. The children enjoyed all of the gory and disgusting facts- such as how they wiped their bottoms, and some of the punishments for soldiers!

"I loved being part of the army, I got to creep around under the shields like the soldiers" Murad

"He made history so fun, it was great when he pointed the swords at us and we pretended to be scared." Jenny

Back in the classroom, the children were excited to handle the artefacts including swords, catapults and cooking pots. They especially enjoyed wearing the armour to feel like a Roman soldier.

"I did not like wearing the armour it was so heavy. They must have been so strong" Lucas

"I liked exploring the weapons. It was cool that we got to touch the swords and pretend to be soldiers. He was very scary when he shouted and banged his beating stick." Archer
