Recap week all about our trip to the farm

Week beginning 20th March

Last week:

What a wonderful week we have had in Nursery - it didn't go how we had planned initially but so much learning was done! We did initially want to look at a new story this week , but the children were still so fascinated with our trip to the farm that we spent longer recapping what we did and explored the animals we met there more, we also made a fabulous floor book about our farm experience and we have loved reading this together in our shared reading area.

Many of us really enjoyed our provision this week , we were especially intrigued by the water tray that our adults had turned into an indoor garden. We explored planting vegetables such as potatoes and carrots , we used our fine motor tools to manipulate the soil and had so much fun digging to find our vegetables. An added bonus, we found that some of vegetables began to sprout! So we have saved those and added them to our curiosity cube in our investigation station to see what happens as at the moment we are really interested in growing.

last week the children also really enjoyed practicing their fine motor cutting skills and helped the adults in the class to cut the horses mane in the fine motor area - our adults were really impressed with our persistence with this activity as it was very tricky!

This week:

This week will be a very busy week as it is our Easter RE week in school. For us , we will be introduced to the Easter story through a wonderful book called Puddles and the Happy Easter day. We will use this book as our base to explore what Easter actually is and link to parts of stories in the Children's bible we have in class. We will explore how this is a Christian festival and find out more about how people celebrate Easter. We are also very excited for our Easter Bonnet parade which we hope all will take part in and families will come to see!

If you would like to help your child at home , you could listen to our focus story this week via a YouTube video found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XzgnC8rKFYc - Speak to your child about what happens in the story and ask them questions to see what they can recall. Another idea is that if you walk to school , cut through our churchyard and show the children the church , explain to them that this is where Christians go to celebrate Christian festivals.

We are looking forward to a busy week with our children in Nursery and can't wait to see what we all learn this week!
