RE Week: Noah's Ark

For the past two weeks , we have been learning all about a lovely story from the very special Christian book, the bible. We have had SO much fun learning the story of Noah’s Ark, we all love animals in Nursery so really enjoyed the story!

Many children are no able to retell the story in the correct order orally, using key vocabulary from the story; many also have a sound understanding of the morale and important points of the story. This story has enabled us to explore many different topics in Nursery such as the weather – we know that Noah’s Ark was built because God sent a flood of rain for 40 days and 40 nights to wipe out all the bad things on the earth, so we had interesting discussions about rainbow, but most of all we loved learning about rainbows which we saw at the end of our story.

The children have been able to create their own beautiful rainbows whilst talking about the colours they used and many noticed how colours mixed, we developed their observational skills by drawing things from the story, completing guided drawing where children had to follow verbal step by step instructions and some children have even started to make marks on their work that represent words such as rainbow or the colours they have used! We are so impressed with how much they have tried recently with their mark making!

We also used this story to reflect on good and bad behaviour as we know that God was trying to rid earth of evil when he sent the floods. As we have had lots of new children join Nursery recently , this was a good way to recap our classroom and wider school expectations and it has been wonderful to see how children who have been in Nursery for a longer time have developed their PSED skills and matured in that time.
