Puddles lends a paw

Reception's RE week.

Week beginning 21st November

This week in Reception class,  we have been focusing on our RE week. This has been a chance for the children to learn more about religion and places of importance. Our story this week was called Puddles lends a paw and is all about a cat finding its way around the Church, helping people along the way.

We learnt all about places that are special to us and discussed why they are special, some of these were the zoo, Santa's village, the beach and even Mcdonald's! On Wednesday we learnt about the special features of a Church and where we might find them. In the afternoon, we went on a visit to the Church to see what we could find. We saw the pews, Cross, Altar and stained-glass windows. We are also learning about being kind people, and how we can help others. We sat and made cards to our friends to let them know how much we appreciate them!

In our classroom this week we have had so many fun activities. One of these activities were the sand trays - the children worked hard to make patterns in the sand tray which helps with their fine motor skills. We also have a school in our role play area where the children are able to act out what their teachers do in the day - the children have enjoyed this area a lot. We also worked together to create our own stained-glass window in the classroom by collaging different materials onto the window, the children worked as a team to make sure it looked amazing.

This week in maths we have been looking at representing and comparing 1, 2 and 3 in different ways, the children have enjoyed exploring different ways to show amounts, with one of our activities being matching the amount to the numeral.

The sounds we have been learning this week are f, ff, l, ll and ss. The children have been working very hard with their phonics this week and have started to independently write words to match the pictures.

Next week:

Next week we will be looking at our Christmas story 'Puddles and the Christmas play'. We are very excited to find out about the nativity story and to be getting Christmassy in Reception!

We can’t wait to see you next week,

Miss Davies and Mrs Cooper
