Collective Worship at Halesowen C of E
At Halesowen C of E we share collective worship together every day. We sometimes share this time together as a whole school, sometimes in key stages and sometimes in classes.
We use a programme called "Roots and Fruits" to plan our Christian collective worship. It is rooted in Bible teaching and twelve Christian values . Each half term focuses on one value (theme) which links with the season of the Church year. Our values are on a two-year rolling programme and each half term we focus weekly collective worships around the value.
All of our worship starts with the adult saying good morning/ afternoon to the children.
Following this the adult or person leading worship will say "Peace be with you..." The children reply "...and also with you". This is taken from the bible: "Peace be with you" (John 20:19) Jesus greeted the apostles with this on Easter Sunday. We say this to make peace with all our friends around us and with ourselves, to clear our minds ready to make peace with God as we worship together.
We then share another greeting- One child is chosen to say "As-Salaam-Alaikum..." and the other children reply "...Wa-Alaikum-Salaam" This is also about sharing peace and being ready to worship in a friendly atmosphere.
After the greetings we join together to share the trinity. Christians believe that there is one God but that God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God the Father, Jesus Christ, who took human form (incarnation) so that people can know God the Father and the Holy Spirit, God's presence in the world today, at work amongst his people. The Trinity is important to Christians because through each person they can get a better understanding of what God is like.
During worship we will sing together. Stories, bible readings and references to other faiths and religions will also be shared. Children will have the chance to be actively involved and to respond.
There will also be a chance for prayer and reflection.
Prayer
A Prayer for service
Father God,
Give us willing hearts to serve others with joy
and bring them help and comfort.
Give us humility to accept help and service from others
with thankfulness and grace
Amen
The Lord's Prayer
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.
Amen.
The Grace
May the grace of the Lord Jesus,
The love of God the Father,
And the fellowship of the Holy Spirit,
Be with us all evermore.
Amen
The School Prayer
This is our school,
Let peace dwell here.
Let the rooms be full of contentment,
Let love abide here,
Love of one another,
Love of humanity,
Love of life itself,
And love of God.
Let us remember…
That as many hands build a house,
So, many hearts make a school.
Amen
