Ethos Statement

Recognising its historic foundation, the school will preserve and develop its religious character in accordance with the principles of the Church of England and in partnership with the Church at parish and diocesan level.

The school aims to serve its community by providing an education of the highest quality within the context of Christian belief and practice.

It encourages an understanding of the meaning and significance of faith, and promotes Christian values through the experience it offers to all its pupils.

As a school we aim:

  • To promote a broad and balanced curriculum which is focussed on teaching and learning and ensures that each child reaches his or her full potential.
  • Continuously to review and monitor our practice in raising standards and providing the best quality teaching in a stimulating environment.
  • To work in genuine partnership with parents and the wider community appreciating the cultural diversity present within it.
  • To provide a supportive environment where staff, children and parents feel valued, secure, confident and positive about their role.
  • To awaken in children an awareness of the wonder of the world and their place in it as world citizens, fostering respect for self, others and property within the Christian context.

As a school we uphold the principles and practices necessary to promote and ensure equality of opportunity for all.

As a church school we place a high importance on our collective worship programme. This reflects our multicultural, inclusive approach; children and staff of all faiths are valued. Each morning the whole school family joins together for assembly. Presently every child in school participates in collective worship.

Each month we visit "our church" St John's, and our vicar leads worship. Celebrating Christian and religious festivals is a highlight of the school year.
