Head teacher's Update

I always expect the school to calm down leading into a half term break - but not a bit of it! We've had scarecrow making in Year 1 and 2 (all four they named Mr Payne by the way - I don't know how to take that). There's been the voting in of our new school councillors, Diwali dancing with our Nursery and Reception children, and a Year 2 Diwali presentation to parents where the children sang songs, recited the story of Rama and Sita and shared sweets and bread that they'd made in class. A wonderfully busy week!

I may not have shared our 2017 performance data with you which will be soon published on our website and the DfE website. I'll give you a brief summary:

As usual our Reception children's results were in line with national data, our Y1 Phonics results were above the national average and all but writing in Key Stage 1 (Year 2 tests) were at or above national expectations. Our Key Stage 2 (Year 6) results however were very impressive; 26% of the children in Reading were given the 'higher than expected' mark and 46% of the children were given the same higher mark for Maths. 96% of the children met the expected standard in Spelling and Grammar and 63% of the children were higher than the expected standard for Spelling and Grammar. Writing will be target for us, and is a target for schools nationally as quality and consistent writing is a tough nut to crack. However, we are very proud of the children, staff and indeed the support you give us and the children. Well done to all.

Well done to the following children who have received the 'Star of the Week' award this week:

Reception: Emma Powell
Year 1: Alfie Williams
Year 2: Ethan Round
Year 3: Levi Clark
Year 4: Syler Rothero
Year 5: Priya Mehat
Year 6: Montana Vidal

REMINDERS

Communication

At school we are continuing to try and improve communication with you. Just as a reminder the website is a good place to find things out. On here the news, newsletter and calendar section is a good place to look. We also try and text out any important information. From time to time you may need to ask something. Sometimes the office may know the answer but more often than not if it is about learning or trips/ visits/ events the class teacher is the best person to talk to. There is a teacher out in both playgrounds before school and all teachers are out after school. Don't be afraid to ask !

Parking

It is still an issue for us that some people are parking in places that are unsuitable. Please do not park on school car parks, across the school drive or on zig zags outside school. This is reinforced for children's safety and access to the site should emergency vehicles need to attend. Please see press release below. There is now free parking on Andrew Road and High street pay and display car Parks- these are close to school.

Dinner Money

School meals are provided by Dudley Catering. The payment you make for meals is made directly to them. School facilitate this and support the catering staff. It is becoming an ever increasing problem that people are not paying for dinners on the day they require them. If dinner money is not sent Dudley catering may only provide a sandwich and may not provide anything at all. We have been asked by the kitchen staff to request that all meals are paid for on the morning or in advance. Please do not be offended if we telephone you to ask you to bring money in before lunchtime. It is a safeguarding issue if you are not providing a lunch for your child and will be logged on a school safeguarding system.

Swimming

Milk

The milk order is now being processed. We cannot order for anyone else or for anyone that returned the form without payment. The next opportunity to order will be for January.

SHARING

This is a space on the newsletter where we can share with you things we have been doing in school

Multi Skills

On Tuesday we went to a multiskills competition at Windsor. The following children represented the school: Reeno, Kia, Maisie, Mohammed, Eden, Luca, Charlie, Reagan, Evie and Mia-Jayde. The children tried so hard and were a credit to the school. Lots of people noticed how well behaved they were. We are very proud of all of them but we always give an award for an outstanding competitor. On this occasion this was Reeno. Well done Reeno!

Cross Country

We also attended a cross country competition on Wednesday. This is a really tough competition where the children run a course that is over a mile long. We took 4 very brave children; Tamzin, Dylan, Tak and Spartak. I was so proud of them all as they all finished the course. They never gave up and it was very challenging. It was hard to give an outstanding competitor award but I have chosen to give it to Tamzin. She really battled against it as she was the only girl from our school and also she suffers from asthma and although it hurt her chest to run she did it! I also want to give a special mention to Dylan who when he finished went back and helped Tak across the line- What sporting behaviour!
