Head teacher's Update
Wow! What a great week in school... I'll start with the RE Debate that we take part in every year. This is where children from different schools (not just church schools) come together to take part in a debate that they have prepared on an agreed topic-ours was 'computer games and whether they lead to violence in young people'. We argued 'against' the topic; as a church school we presented the argument that children should be able to make their own moral decisions. Suffice to say we continued our winning streak as we have never lost an RE debate in the time that I've been here. Congratulations to all the Year 6 children and staff involved-they were all a credit to the school. Thursday was also very exciting as the children were immersed in World Book Day activities. It was one of those days when you could really feel a buzz around the school-even at lunchtime where children volunteered to come into a special reading room with candles and an open fire (on a screen). Today we continued our World Book Day theme-the children spent all morning doing speaking and listening activities which involved no writing at all!

COMMUNICATION
As a school we are working very hard to improve communication with you.
We are moving towards producing less paper communication and more online.
We will continue to use the text message service but need to make you aware that this is limited as each message can only be 160 letters long. It is also your responsibility to make sure phone numbers are kept up-to-date.
We are trying to keep the website up-to-date particularly the news, calendar and newsletter sections. Please use this as your main source of information.
We will still send out letters for specific meetings and events but remind you that you need to check your child's bags/ book bags for letters regularly as we often find them in bags.
If you have any issues with communication please speak to us.
Mobile Phone Policy
The Sign below is displayed in school. This forms part of our safeguarding policies to protect children. Please do not use mobile phones inside the school building, unless you have gained prior permission e.g. to take photos at Star of the Week assembly. You will be asked to put mobiles away if you are seen.
SHARING
This is a space on the newsletter where we can share with you things we have been doing in school
We all really enjoyed World Book Day. It started with us all chilling out listening to "The Smartest Giant in Town" on a story CD in assembly. We went on a trail around school to find quotes from books. We had to guess the title of the book and author. It was really close but in 1st place was Year 4, Joint 2nd place was Year 2 and Year 6 and 3rd was Year 5. We also enjoyed reading at dinner time in a dark room with dens, bean bags, candle light and torches! We all took home a book quiz. Three entries were selected from the ones handed in- the winners, who will get to go to Halesowen to buy a book will be announced on the school website. Finally, today children have taken part in a book swap.
Here's what the children said about the activities:
"It's great. Reading! Reading ! Reading ! " Grace Year 5
"Look lets go under the table we can read there ."Teo Year 5
" It's like a library and with a campfire" Jamie Year 1
WELL DONE. WELL DONE. WELL DONE. WELL DONE. WELL DONE.
To the children who took part in and won the RE debate this week:
Shahla, Georgie, Bilal, Sumayyah, Alexandru and Chloe
All parents are invited to our Star of the Week assembly on Wednesday to watch them receive their certificates.
